Sisterhood
Why do sorority members call themselves 'sisters?' What makes us more than simply friends? The Kappa Delta creed includes the line "May we, Sisters in Kappa Delta, strive each day to seek more earnestly the honorable and beautiful things." The commitment by each and every Kappa Delta sister to uphold these virtues bonds us in a way that no other acquaintance can. The feeling, the emotion, the devotion that we feel to each and every sister is unconditional. It is this connection between members from which we derive the characteristics of our sisterhood.
Kappa Delta's primary purpose is to provide a secure, stabilizing environment for personal growth and lifelong association of friendship to its members. KDs can enjoy sisterhood activities, intramural sports and social events together. We send care packages to our sisters who are studying abroad, and when a Kappa Delta is involved in a non-sorority event, such as a dance performance or cultural show, her sisters will turn out to support her. Our Junior Society and Senior Club keep our older sisters close with dinners, cocktail parties, and wine tours.
Sorority life culminates during our weekly Chapter meetings, which take place at the Kappa Delta Chapter House. We come together to conduct the business and happenings of Kappa Delta, Greek life, and Cornell. Business aside, an amazing support system exists in our house, and the KD doors are open at all times to any sister. There is always someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, a study-buddy at any hour, and, of course, always someone to drag out to a party.
Kappa Delta's commitment to sisterhood has paid off. We have won the Most Outstanding Sorority Award for many consecutive years. Our Chapter Excellence program emphasizes sisterhood as one of the most basic necessities for sorority success. Sisters in Kappa Deltas have continuously served our sorority with conscience and integrity. Our love for one another is apparent to others on campus. We are universally regarded as a well-balanced, down-to-earth, diverse sorority whose members, simply put, 'just get along.' Kappa Deltas are proud of their strong sisterhood. It is, quite possibly, the most important pillar of our organization.
